What is the current state of Detergent and Soap market in Japan and the room for entry?

Although the size of the Detergent and Soap market in Japan is large, it is currently in a state of saturation. However, due to the fact that everyday goods including toiletries were subject to exemption for tax purposes in 2014, in recent years there has been an increase in consumption due to the presence of foreign tourists visiting Japan, spurred consumption expansion, and also the volume of distribution of fragrant aroma to clothing has expanded by aroma fabric softener boom.

In addition, with the transition of consumer values, they began seeking products with added value such as specializing in skin, environment-friendly organic products and good fragrance, and as a result of the creation of new categories within the industry, not only major companies but also SME’s got room for entry. Especially, fragrance booms by fabric softener and organic products are greatly affected by overseas brands and there are many cases where overseas products influenced by them which are successful in Japan, and the influence of trends imported from overseas can be said that it is big. The existence of new distribution routes such as Internet sales also fulfills the role of refreshing long-selling products of SMEs and raising awareness of overseas products.
