About the Report 

This report titled "Japanese acquisitions of European companies: what can managers in European Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises expect during the post-acquisition phase?" outlines how managers in European SMEs might prepare for acquisition by a Japanese company and the reasons of these acquisitions in Europe. It focuses on common approaches adopted by Japanese companies as they acquire companies and other assets in Europe and informs managers in European companies about how and why foreign direct investment sourced in Japan is an important factor shaping the business environment in Europe. Through case studies of Japanese companies buying assets in Europe and testimony from interviews with Japanese managers, this reports provides various recommendation to prepare SMEs for acquisition by a Japanese company. 

About the Experts:

Dr. Keith Jackson a tutor and researcher at SOAS, University of London, and currently Professor of Human Resource Management at Doshisha University, Kyoto. Dr. Jackson has over thirty years of experience working as a manager and talent management consultant for companies in many countries including Japan. Dr. Shigeru Matsumoto is a Professor at the Graduate School of Business, Doshisha University, Kyoto. Dr Matsumoto has 20 years of experience in investment banking and advisory at global institutions, including The Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corp., Macquarie Capital, and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He has served as an advisor on over 50 Japan-related cross-border M&A transactions in 20 countries.
